Avengers: Endgame
In Avengers: Endgame, the heroes that survived Thanos’ snap from the end of Avengers: Infinity War deal with the emotional and psychological aftermath of the event. 5 years later, Scott Lang comes out of the Quantum Realm and suggests time travel through the Quantum Realm to undo Thanos’ snap. Tony is able to figure out time travel and the heroes recover the stones. When they return to the current time, Hulk snaps with a new infinity gauntlet to restore the lives lost literally by Thanos’ hand. Seconds afterward, a time-traveling Thanos makes his return and destroys the Avengers facility. While the rest of the heroes recover the big three, Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, each take on Thanos in combat. After Thanos knocked both Thor and Iron Man unconscious Cap is able to hold his own for a bit and then the Mad Titan beats him up a good bit, even ripping apart his vibranium shield in the process. As Cap slowly recovers himself Thanos’ army is beamed down to the ground. Then it cuts to a shot of Cap looking at the vastness of Thanos and his army. Moments later, Falcon, one of the heroes who fell victim to Thanos’ snap 5 years prior, asks Cap through the comms if he can hear him. This is followed by a series of portals opening up from all over the galaxy revealing a whole army’s worth of heroes ready to take on Thanos and his minions.
In 2 Kings 6:8-23, Elisha and his servant are being sought after by the king of Syria. His men come upon Elisha’s camp early in the morning and his servant was the first of the two to notice this and became overwhelmed with fear. Elisha prayed that God would open his eyes. God answered his prayer and allowed his servant to see an angel army of horses and chariots all around them. This gave the servant great faith in the Lord to bring them out of this ordeal and so the Lord did.
Both the servant and Captain America felt overwhelmingly alone facing a vast army. They soon discovered that they were not alone. Cap had an army of heroes on his side and the servant had an angel army on his, although having God alone on his side was more than enough. We are never alone when we have God on our side. With God, we also have an army of angels with us even when all hope may seem lost.
Have you been feeling alone in your trials lately? Will you place your trust in the Lord knowing that He and His army are with you? Will you place your trust in Him knowing that part of that army is the community of believers that you’re a part of, some of which have gone through at least similar situations as you? Who do you know that might be feeling alone right now? Other than your prayers, how can you tangibly help them through their trial(s)? Will you commit to approaching your relationships being sensitive to others’ trials and support them?
