The Avengers

Image
In The Avengers, Loki attempts to take dominion over the earth, but he also knows that he needs to defeat the Avengers in order to do so. In his attempt to do just that, he makes sure that he gets captured. His goal in doing this is to distract them from viewing him as the primary threat. He knows to do this the threat must come from within. Bruce Banner still doesn’t have control over his actions as the Hulk. Loki knows that this is his opportunity to cause a distraction, so he creates an environment to make Banner angry enough to turn into the Hulk and it succeeds… until Stark figured this out and where Loki went. In the midst of the battle of New York Banner returns to the team. In this scene, he reveals that his secret is that he’s always angry. The Great Commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:29-31). In Matthew 25:45 Jesus says “Truly, I sa...

Thor

Image
The movie Thor is about the Norse god of the same name who is exiled by his father to earth as a punishment for his “arrogance and stupidity.” What Thor did was betray a peace treaty Odin, his father and king of Asgard, had made with Jotunheim because Thor thought that Laufey, the king of Jotunheim, had done the same. Thor, along with his friends and brother, Loki, went to Jotunheim to fight out their differences. Thor thought that Laufey had sent a few of his soldiers to Asgard, Thor’s home, to steal a relic. The reality was that Loki, who had encouraged Thor saying he was right to retaliate, had enabled those soldiers to come into Asgard unnoticed, making himself a traitor to Asgard. Thor learns of Loki’s betrayal during his exile on earth when he learns of a lie that Loki had told him. It is throughout this fiasco that Thor proves himself a fool. The Bible, specifically the book of Proverbs, has a lot to say about fools. Fools do what ...

The Incredible Hulk

In The Incredible Hulk, Dr. Bruce Banner is at odds with General Ross. Banner possesses the ability to turn into a raging, green monster when he becomes incredibly angry. Ross wants to make this ability into a biological weapon and Banner knows very well that that is a horrible idea, so he is constantly on the run from Ross. In his attempt to catch Banner, Ross brings in a guy named Blonsky to help him get the job done. Blonsky is given a small dose of a serum similar to that which is in Banner’s blood. Something Ross was unaware of was the fact that this small dose was enough to make Blonsky want more to become like the Hulk, the raging, green monster. So, Blonsky became power-hungry leading up to a fight between him as a similar creature to the Hulk known as the Abomination and the Hulk himself.  The difference between Blonsky and Banner was how they decided to deal with their anger. Banner chose to find ways to suppress and control it, bui...

Iron Man 2

In Iron Man 2, Tony Stark is seeking another way to protect his heart from shrapnel entering his heart, killing him. During this time, he had a device in his chest protecting his heart called the Arc Reactor. However, this device is also poisoning his blood, slowly killing him. In one scene, Tony is watching an old video of his father, Howard, whose technology business Tony took over. Howard, in this video, told Tony that a major project he was working on was for him and that Tony was his greatest creation. At this point, Howard had passed away and had never told Tony that he loved him, so this video struck a chord with Tony and decided to look into his father’s project. As it turns out, in doing this Tony found the key to upgrading his Arc Reactor so that it doesn’t slowly kill him. Jeremiah 17:9 says “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick.” Just like Tony’s first Arc Reactor, the heart can desire things that look good to ...
